MEET THE ARTIST
Hello, I'm Sumiyo.
Born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1973, I earned my MFA in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in 1998.
My work grows out of New England's changing seasons, Japanese culture, and the small moments that make a day feel special.
After 20 years of university teaching, I continue sharing the joy of making art through online painting lessons on Patreon.

I’m developing Creative Clay Center—a future place in Oxford, Massachusetts, where people can create, learn, and connect through clay.
The center is still in planning and is not yet open. Plans for a new building and the historic barn are evolving; the building sequence and opening date have not been decided.
